A About PodLab & location
What is PodLab?
PodLab is a space where you can record your online content. We have two studios for hire, and we specialise in the development, recording and production of podcasts. We provide a full suite of services to create or improve your podcast or content, including studio hire, podcast brand development, series development, producing (content, guest booking, directing, researching, publishing), editing, highlight clips for promotion, coaching (voice, interview technique, presentation and content) and voiceovers.
Where are you based?
We are based in central Auckland at 13 Hargreaves Street, near Victoria Park and next to the Police Station.
Do you have car parking?
Unfortunately, we are very limited with parking. We have two guest car parks available on a first-come, first-served basis. If you miss out, there is plenty of street parking on Hargreaves Street and College Hill.
B Before you record
What do I need to bring to a recording?
If you do not need any props, just bring yourself. Please be prepared to mute your phone in the studio, and avoid wearing tight patterns or prints because they can strobe on camera. If you would like to bring anything else, please let us know.
Can I add my own branding to my recording?
Absolutely. You can display your branding on one of our studio screens at no extra cost. To add a watermark or other graphics to your project, our editing fee applies.
Can I hire a host for my podcast?
Yes, we offer hosting services with professional presenters. Let us know your needs and we will match you with the right person.
I have some ideas for a podcast, but I want to run them by you for confidence and reassurance. How can I do this?
This is Jay-Jay & Dom’s superpower! Their experience in broadcasting, podcasting and connecting with audiences spans over 35 years each. Their expertise and guidance will be invaluable to you and your podcast. Please enquire about a consultation appointment. Email contact@podlab.nz
C In the studio
What happens if I go over my time?
There is a clock in front of you during the recording so you can keep an eye on the time. If you go over, the engineer will give you a wrap-up signal. If no one is booked immediately after you, you may continue recording, but you will be charged for the extra hour.
How do I receive my files at the end of a session?
During your session, the Studio Engineer will live-switch cameras between the host & guests. After the recording is complete, the engineer will upload the raw, unedited files to a shared drive, making them easily accessible for you to download. You will receive your audio, a live-edited 1920x1080 video as well as single-camera files.
Will my files be upload ready?
We operate a live-editing studio, so the studio engineer will switch between cameras during the recording to the person or people who are speaking. This video file will be 1920 x 1080 ratio. You will receive this, as well as the 3 single camera files and a separate file of audio.
If you want to trim or edit the recording or delete parts of it, we can cut the podcast according to your instructions. There will be a video editing fee for this service, based on the time it takes and the number of revisions you require.
Do you record in 4k?
We don't, and it's a deliberate choice rather than a limitation. 4K files are significantly larger, which slows down editing and turnaround time and adds real cost to storage and backups, especially with multiple cameras running at once. It also doesn't add much: most podcasts are watched on YouTube, Spotify, or social clips, all of which compress video anyway and are mostly viewed on phone screens. 1080p gives a crisp, broadcast-quality result while keeping production efficient.
